Friday 20th April
We would like to thank Joe for looking after the fish during our Easter holholidays. This week Miss Hoban ans Miss Mannion moved the fish tank into Mrs Coen's room with First and Second class. Some of the sixth class girls removed the fish from the tank and they had lots of fun trying to catch the Blenny. The flat fish was very active this week The fish have settled in well into their new classroom.
Friday 30th March
Our Blenny has become very brave, he is coming out from behind the rocks alot more and is swimming around for a long time. He must be getting more familiar with his new environment.

Not even a trace of the Hermit Crab

Friday 23rd March
Our Hermit Crab has not been seen all week. We have searched the tank and there are no traces of him. We are very surprised that there are no traces of him anywhere. The Blenny was very greedy this week and he was not happy sharing teh food with the Butter Fish or the Scorpion.

Hermit Crab Missing

Friday 16th March
Our Hermit Crab is not visible in the tank and we are hoping that he is ok. The Blenny is very funny this week. Every morning he shoots to the top of the tank and tries to bite the cube of frozen food, when he gets a piece he swims very fast back to his hiding place again. The big flat fish is also very active this week and he is very clever as he can change his colour to blend in with his environment. All the other fish are looking well.

Only a small shell of the Shore Crab is left in the tank after the weekend.

Friday 9th March
On returning to school on Monday we could not find our Shore Crab. We searched the coral to see if he was molting, but there was no sign of him . Eventually we found a small piece of the Crabs shell. The Hermit Crab must have eaten him after his death. The Blenny was very active this week, he can swim very fast and can catch food very quickly. We are delighted that he has come out from his hiding place behind the rocks. The Star fish have started to move around the tank.We have left in a bigger shell for the Hermit Crab as he has come out of his old shell.

A Trip To The Aquarium

Friday 2nd March
Not alot to report from the fish tank this week . All the fish are doing well. The temperature of the tank is 15 degrees celsius and the fish seem happy with this temperature. On Thursday of this week Senior Infants, First, Second Third and Fourth Classes attended the Atlantaquarium in Salthill in Galway. We had a lovely tour of the Aquarium, a talk on how to look after the fish and some fun time in the laboratory.

All our Mullet are wiped out

Friday 21st February
Our two remaining Mullets have died. We rang the Aquarium again and we were told that all the Mullet in the Aquarium had caught an infection. Neill from the Aquarium informed us that it was possible that the Mullet had the infection before they arrived in Cappataggle. We are happy to report that all the other fish are swimming around and eating and we are hoping that the infection did not spread to the rest of the fish in the tank.
